Brightening up a dull winter's day...

It is cold and grey here in Amsterdam today so I thought I would share a brighter LO to warm things up.  I actually scrapped a photo of me!! A rare event indeed. LOL! Corina took this photo of me in July during her floating birthday party (a friend with a boat took a bunch of us for a fantastic tour of Haarlem's canals... lots of laughs and many fun photos taken). Because it was a happy photo I used Echo Park's line "Little Boy", which is fun and bright and obviously not limited to little boy LOs! The title and journaling get at the fact that as I get older my eyes are disappearing a bit when I smile. One of the joys of aging ;-) TFL!

Inspiration challenge at ScrapDelight!

After the success of last year's Scrap Delight inspiration challenge Corina and Charlotte decided to do it again this year. The challenge occurs over 8 weeks with four different challenges and two weeks in-between to let people create. The first challenge, which started on January 16th, is to scrap something related to one's new years resolutions.

I scrapped the LO below as one of two examples from the Scrap Delight design team to help get people on their way. It is another get rid of scraps page using up scraps from five different past pages :-) and one piece of cardstock... not bad LOL!! TFL!

The rest of my December SD Extra projects...

As I work on my projects for February's ScrapDelight Extra I decided I better share my last few projects from December. The first is a fun (and quite busy for me) LO featuring my cute niece. The ripping and rolling back paper to create a frame is an idea I lifted from past layouts by Corina and Janine.

Out with the old so I can in with the new...

Using up my stash... the beginning of this LO was a negative shape cut to provide a label shape for a minibook (Mothers in My Life). Call me Scottish (let's do Monty Python... come on it IS fun... wink wink, say no more, say no more) but I could not throw away the negative shape - addicted to Basic Grey or just Scottish (yes, there is a pattern here ;-) ;-)  say no more, say no more)

Seriously though... I have such a hard time discarding even the smallest scrap...  I therefore love LOs that use them up and this LO is small scraps plus some left over cardstock stickers and a sweet set of photos! I also love seeing my nephews and nieces with their grandparents (a vacarious experience to be sure!) and so I will always celebrate the moments like the ones captured with these photos. TFL!

A little bit of time travel...

Here are a couple of my projects from December's ScrapDelight Extra (nothing like being a month late with a post ;-) The entire ScrapDelight Extra can be viewed here.

I love the first one I am sharing...my favourite part is the small journaling ("ho ho howl" says it all). The background of the original photo was a bit distracting so I cut out Santa and the kids and created my own backdrop for them.

The second is a countdown calendar (sorry about the badly lit photos!) I bought an inexpensive tin ornament and used that as the base. I gifted it to a friend's daughter for Christmas and she loved it and enjoyed counting down the days to Christmas although as she is in Germany we had a discussion as to whether she should count down to Christmas Eve (when most German's celebrate and open gifts) and Christmas Day (when we Canadians tend to do it).

The perfect pairing...

I realise it is an older line, but sometimes I buy paper without a project in mind... hold the shocked gasps please (LOL!) and wait for the perfect photo to be taken. I love this photo of my Mum - she is relaxing in an adirondack chair on the dock at my sister's cottage doing a crossword, not a common sight! The relaxed nature of the photo and the colours really seemed to go nicely with this paper line from Kaiser Craft.

To create a backdrop for the title I grouped and layered a number of the shapes that came with the chipboard embellishment set and really like how it turned out. I may try using that trick again as I am never sure what to do with really matchy 'left-over' embellishments when I've used up the paper. Sometimes you can use them on other projects or cards, but if they are really specific colours/designs sometimes they just haunt your 'I'll have to use it some time box.' The tag is actually part of the packaging - it coordinated so I used it adding the journaling on the back.TFL!!

A little slow to join the rest of the ScrapDelight DT...

but here is my LO using Basic Grey's Curio. We had all discussed how flexible this line was, allowing many different looks and decided to all do a layout, but I did not get mine done in time to be included in the ScrapDelight Blog post regarding Curio or for that matter with the December sketch results (I also used that sketch). Definitely a little slow!

So here is the sketch and the resulting page which features my beautiful friend Corina and her two cherubs. The title reflects their tradition of taking a photo of the three of them on Mother's Day each year... TFL!!!

Sayonara sabbatical...

Well it has been quite a stretch of time since my last post. A trip home, heavy work schedule this fall and a slight case of burn out on the scrapping front had me taking a bit of a sabbatical. So besides specific assignments for ScrapDelight I was doing very little until December. But the mo-jo is back LOL! So I've changed things up a bit visually on the blog to express this 're-birth'.

The biggest motivation has been a change in page size... no longer tied to 8x8 I have increased the size of my scrapbook pages (although still not feeling up to scrapping 12x12). I found some page protectors that are 9.25x10 so have been happily taking up the additional real estate that this slightly larger size provides... just have to figure out the album issue at some point as the stack is growing. Good news is that as a result of the recharge I have lots of LOs to share now that I am back blogging again. Bad news is pages no longer easily scan so I am having to stitch them which has given me a whole new appreciation for what those of you who scrap 12x12 go through to post pages!!!

First LO I am sharing is my take on ScrapDelight's January sketch challenge.

 

The sketch was initially a challenge for me and then I turned it upside down and it worked like a dream (not sure what that says about me LOL!) Photo is of my sweet niece Rachel and paper is one of WeRMemory Keepers newer lines Retro Glam. TFL!!!
